Fagioli was awarded the contract for lifting and skidding of generator to its final position on Turbine Generator deck in Vietnam.
The Vietnamese client requirement was to have a contractor capable not only to perform the lifting activities but also to act as sole interface, supplying all the required temporary steel structures and equipment including the erection activities at site.
Due to the tight project schedule requirements (three months from contract award to lifting date), the remote location, stringent site safety regulations and some technical challenges (like the distance from lifting point to final positioning location), Fagioli was the only contractor able to propose a solution in line with the customer requirements.
In less than three months Fagioli was able to provide the engineering, fabricate and erect all the required steel structures and equipment, performing the lift soon after STG was delivered to site without a single day of delay! The STG (unit 1) was lifted using a specially fabricated gantry structure to a height of about 23.5 m from ground by 4 no. L100 Fagioli’s strand jacks.
After lifting the STG to the turbine floor level, the STG was skidded for over 30 meters to its final position by 2 no. L15 pulling strand jacks connected to Fagioli’s moving gantry and from there lowered on to foundations. Due to the buildings steel structure strong point locations on the operative floor, Fagioli designed specific rails able to work with only three supporting points resulting in a free span across the operating floor of over 12 m without any reinforcing beams underneath the operating floor main girders. Fagioli also reviewd its engineering by finite element analysis including strength check on the operating floors supporting steel structures under load during the STG lifting and skidding to its final location.
